L.A. Native Gavin is a fearless performer.
A trained dancer, blossoming songwriter and captivating vocalist, Gavin is a triple threat of an artist whose musical career has only just begun. Discovered by the first lady of Brainfeeder, TOKiMONSTA, Gavin has lent her voice to several tracks on TOKi’s Creature Dreams EP, including its lead single, “Little Pleasures.” The single has been a recent favorite on KCRW and a number of independent radio stations across the country; Prefix Magazine praises this collaboration: “Little Pleasures is the clearest success… Turek wraps herself around a gently oscillating boom-bap – delectably dusty, and utterly tranquilizing.”
Yes, she’s come a long way from the days of making beats and writing music in her college dorm room. Back then, Gavin didn’t necessarily plan on sharing her music with the rest of the world. She says, “Writing was simply my emotional outlet so I started making music on my laptop. That led to my sister posting some of it online, which then led to working with incredible producers and the start of an album.” As she continues to experiment with different musical textures and sounds, Gavin finds inspiration from a myriad of life experiences including some months spent absorbing the sights and sounds of Ghana and India. Certainly, her work with TOKiMONSTA and the latter’s electronic medium have also found their place in Gavin’s developing sound.
Zak Waters, a Los Angeles native, emerged in early 2011 and arrived on the scene oozing with confidence, sex appeal, and charismatic vocal ability. His creations are perfectly crafted pop songs infused with contagious dance hits. In 2011, he began releasing original tracks along with his first solo EP "New Normal". 'New Normal' was an instant success among the top music blogs, praising his unique spin on electro / pop & soul. On the stage, Waters & his full live band have been shaking up dance floors across the country with his impressive and ambitious solo work ever since it's inception.
Due to his quick success & buzz, he was asked to collaborate with one of the youngest & most talented producers & DJs in the dance scene, Madeon. Waters collaborated and wrote the melody and lyrics to Madeons biggest song to date, "The City", released in Oct. 2012. With the track being #1 instantly on UK's Radio One and its commercial success, Waters solo tunes were getting noticed on a different level. Waters was featured on NBC's late night hit show, "Last Call with Carson Daly" in Dec 2012 which gave a great look inside the craft and mind of his art. Besides his singing and songwriting, his producing was being noticed which led to his official remixes of major artists, Adam Lambert, All American Rejects and Foxy Shazam. Most recently, Waters has been in the studio and collaborating with other highly acclaimed and well respected DJs such the nu-disco, house duo The Knocks, as well as Dillion Francis, Felix Cartel and Hot Mouth and DCUP. Aside from his successful collaborations, Waters' live DJ set has been noticed as versatile, mixing live vocals as well as playing much of his own infectious dance music, similar to that of Calvin Harris.
In the center of all of Zak Waters' hard work with other fellow writers/producers and DJs, Waters has been eager to release his highly-anticipated first full length album in early 2013. Shortly after the release of his album, fans and club-goers can look forward to a Club Mix EP, which will be used in his DJ sets. 2013 is proving to be a fast-paced and highly successful year for this Los Angeles up-and comer, a true artist, songwriter, producer and DJ, Zak Waters.
The Ross Sea Party: The Ross Sea Party is a typically unusual Los Angeles family. Five friends who wanted to transcend the disconnected and nonsensical nature of life in the city and create something consequential, the band built a home with hollow-body guitars, well-tuned drums, and a glockenspiel.
Like its namesake, a little known yet heroic wing of Ernest Shackleton's famed 1914 Trans-Antarctic Expedition, the band can be characterized by their easy navigation across an ever-changing atmosphere. Raised on everything from the idiosyncratic guitar work of Neil Young and the irreverent pop of The Talking Heads to contemporaries Delta Spirit, Arcade Fire and The Dodos, the Ross Sea Party is constantly inspired. While paying homage to their influences, the band has simultaneously managed to create an unmistakable and unique sound. Characterized by spacious instrumentation and singer Brady Erickson's unique voice atop energetic and pervasive rhythms, the songs remain simple, catchy and melodic at their core.
Erickson began The RSP in 2009 with fellow LA scene veterans Michael Baumer on drums and multi-instrumentalist Will VanderWyden, adding Atlanta transplant Mark Tillman on guitar and LA native Jacquelyn Thropay on keyboards and glockenspiel the following year.
DJ Fresh Air: i.am.freshair. funny how we essentially have the obligation to pick a surname or 'alter ego' of who we are as musicians versus who we are as human beings. this process doesn't escape me, but actually inspires me to evaluate everything i am and everything i feel...about music. i have been dj-ing to some extent my whole entire life, starting with mix tapes for crushes in grade school and continuing on to the obsession of 'vibe setting' of this current day. i am fresh air. fresh air in all senses of the word. fresh air for people who don't like 'dj' music and for those who do. fresh air for people who think every single second of every single moment of every single song is important. fresh air for people who believe that music is the soundtrack of our lives. it is. it is the pulse of our world. hop on or get run over. this is my life purpose. i truly believe that. i am the best dj in the world. come check me out.
