Italian Japanese: Italian Japanese are an indie rock band from L.A. / San Diego. An all-American band built on pounding rhythms, dynamic guitar work and fully charged vocals reminiscent of the '80s and '90s most solid rock and roll, Italian Japanese founders Allen Nicholas (lead vocals, guitar) and Chris McLaughlin (guitar, keys) met up at a San Diego taco shop. With guitarist Sean Rodriguez and drummer Justin Greene, they released their debut album The Lush Romantic Weirdness in 2009, along with a video for their song “Le Pony.” Collectively, the band members have played SXSW and the Leeds Music Festival, as well as road trips with the Warped and Bamboozle tours. They have shared the stage with bands like: Phoenix, Grizzly Bear, Cults and Surfer Blood to name just a few. In January, they released a new single, “Two Islands.” “It’s a relationship song about being in love with someone, and then realizing that you’re basically living on two different islands and there’s no way this is going to work,” says Nicholas. “It’s coming to the realization that this person that you want to be with, it’s impossible. It’s just not going to work out.” Through their songs, tales of the road and romance erupt with the challenge that comes in facing new conflicts and the comfort of finding your way through them. "I just hope down the line our songs can be something that people relate with a certain time or place with nostalgia," says Nicholas. "Whether it's happy or sad, to have that kind of effect on somebody is amazing."
Cigarettes After Sex: Cigarettes After Sex is a conceptual pop project consisting of songs written & recorded by Greg Gonzalez & performed live with a backing band consisting of a revolving door of different local musicians & songwriters. The project began in 2008 with a string of demos & live performances influenced heavily by 80's dance pop such as Madonna, New Order & Erasure & lyrically by writers such as Tom Robbins, Richard Brautigan & Bill Knott. Cigarettes after Sex have recently shared the stage with Hello Seahorse, Parallels, White Arrows, and in 2011 they performed at the Neon Desert Music Festival. The first EP, I Can See You, was released in early 2010 featuring a sound owing more influence to The Jesus & Mary Chain, the Smiths & early New Order. Cigarettes After Sex, the first LP, is to continue in the darker new wave style of the first EP. - 915lifestyle
The Halfbreed Lovers: The Halfbreed Lovers are an indie rock band lead by singer / songwriter Victor Talamantes from El Paso, TX. They have played this year’s SXSW and have recently shared the stage with Givers, Hello Seahorse!, and The Royalty. In 2012, The Halfbreed Lovers released a new concept album entitled “For Some and Not Others” which "combine fast guitar with slow drum and hypnotizing female and male vocals to make their desert rock come alive." -downtownphoenixjournal.com and, "according to Irish punks So Cow, Halfbreed Lovers are the local act to watch out for." - Melody Parra, EP Culture Beat.
